    Zhao Lihui, also known as Zhao Yun, graduated from Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts majoring in Chinese painting. In the 1990s, he participated in the national-level project “Dunhuang Grottoes Cultural Relics Conservation and Exhibition Center” to copy and reproduce the murals of the super grottoes for two years, and deeply explored the traditional techniques of the predecessors’ murals. His works of heavy-color fine brushwork have won the silver award of the National Fine Art Exhibition, the Excellence Award of the National Art Exhibition and the gold award of the Tianjin Art Works Exhibition. He has independently painted a large-scale gold-leaf heavy-color screen painting for the Tianjin Hall of the Great Hall of the People, and is the first in China to integrate mural techniques into contemporary One of the painters of artistic creation. Now he is the vice president and professor of the Chinese Painting Institute of the Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts, and a member of the Academic Committee of the Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts. Member of the China Artists Association, director and deputy secretary general of the Heavy Color Painting Research Association of the China Artists Association, and deputy director of the Figure Painting Art Committee of the China Fine Art Association.

     

    In 2007, at the Dunhuang International Symposium, he gave a dissertation speech titled ‘Following the ancient times and the present, and inheriting the heart of a thousand years of painting—the interpretation and application of murals’. In 2010, he was employed as a professor at the Art Department of the First University of Aix-Provence-Marseille, France, to study Chinese fine brushwork and heavy color painting, and to investigate and study ancient frescoes in Avignon. In 2013, he was invited to teach the materials and techniques of Dunhuang frescoes at the Japanese Painting Department of the Faculty of Arts, Hiroshima City University, Japan. In 2015, he was invited to give lectures at the Department of Painting and Calligraphy, National Taiwan University of Arts. In 2019, he conducted art exchanges at the Aichi Prefectural University of the Arts, Japan, and participated in the Japan Aichi Prefectural University of Arts and Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts Exchange Exhibition of Japanese Paintings.

    In 2020, he was approved and presided over the National Art Fund-Chinese Traditional Clay Mural Professional Talent Training Project.
