The themes of my works always revolve around the people and things I observe in life. I like mountains and valleys, and the rivers and lakes that crisscross them. I also like to explore the fascinating and colorful ethnic minorities living among them.
My focus is more on characters. A staring eye, a pair of big rough hands, a beautiful girl in the sun, or a cow lying in the water, as well as the scenes and characters going to the market under the slanting light in the morning all excite me. I try to filter and reproduce these stories that happen every day through my works, hoping that the audience can feel the diversity of current life.I think the work I create is relatively informal. For a period of time, I have been interested in figures and portraits, so I will focus mainly on this aspect, and portraits are the main ones. They are images that I encounter in my daily life, or images that impressed me deeply during my travels. Occasionally I also paint a few landscape sketches.
At some point, I get obsessed with animal drawings. The subjects I often paint are cattle, including oxen and buffaloes, because the Yunnan where I live is a mountainous area dominated by farming, unlike the plains with endless fields. The terraces and mountains must be cultivated by cattle, and the appearance of cattle and their close relationship with people are also very picturesque.
Over time, this has also formed the look and style of my paintings over the years. -
