I create ceramic works based on the theme of “an ambiguous existence born from the overlap and misalignment of spirituality with the body.”
I mold clay objects and then overlay pictures on the surface using engobe, a pottery technique, to give them a new character and identity.
This determines their identity. The clay form is the body, and the decoration is its spirituality.
When decoration is overlaid on a form, there is a misalignment or it is blurred, so it does not explain the form, and the decoration itself is ambiguous. You could also say it is a temporary spirituality on the surface. Although ceramic is a real material, it exists there as “ambiguous” due to the misalignment between the body and spirituality. -
